None of the 70 animals were harmed in the fire. The fire started in the attic of the business located on Coley Road next to the Orchard church, according to Capt. David Blackwell.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but it did cause extensive damage to the roof of the building. One employee was taken to the hospital by ambulance because of heat exhaustion.
All-Animal Hospital owner Dr. Sonya Bryan said she’s received a lot of help from the public and colleagues and doesn’t need any donations for now.
“The help has been great,” she said. “We have moved the sicker animals to other vets in the area and our back kennel was unharmed by the fire so some are there. We had a quick exit strategy and that helped us to get all the animals and employees out safely.”
Bryan said the hospital’s phone calls have been rerouted to another location and she’s moved some equipment to other places.
“I don’t really know how long before everything is fixed, but we’re going to be working somewhere in the meantime,” she said. “We just don’t know exactly where at this point, but we won’t be completely closed.”
Because the attic was still hot, Assistant Fire Chief Thomas Walker said the investigation into the cause had to be suspended Tuesday. Investigators will restart the investigation early this morning.
