JACKSON - Microsoft's settlement of an antitrust lawsuit filed by the state of Mississippi will result in a payment of $40 million in 40 days.

Attorney General Jim Hood says a Hinds County judge on Thursday signed off on the settlement. The state sued Microsoft in 2007 claiming the company engaged in anticompetitive conduct that caused customers to pay more for software than they would have if there had been competition.

The lawsuit was similar to dozens of others filed by attorneys general across the country.

In addition, Hood says Mississippi schools, business and others will get about $60 million in vouchers to buy computers, software and other services as part of the settlement.

One of the last remaining profitable, and truly American Companies, being torn assunder by the guys in the cheap suits. And being ruled down on by techno-wimp judges that hardly know the difference between a mouse and a modem.

Maybe Mr. Bill will just close up Redmond and move to Beijing.
