The 6-foot-9 Varnado, who's led the nation in blocks the past two seasons and is the two-time reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year, is one of 15 players who will try to make the 12-man squad. It's coached by Wisconsin's Bo Ryan.
"This is a great opportunity for Jarvis, and this will give him a chance to play with some of the best college players in the country," MSU coach Rick Stansbury said.
The biennial World University Games will take place July 2-12 in Belgrade, Serbia.
