A graduate of Tupelo High School, Aguirre attended Boys State as a delegate in 1990. He was elected to the Boys State Senate and named Most Outstanding Boys Stater. Aguirre joined the Boys State staff in 1991.
Aguirre is a graduate of Mississippi State University, where he majored in accounting, and he received an MBA from the University of Mississippi. Currently, Aguirre resides in Tupelo and works as chief financial officer for Alliance Healthcare System in Holly Springs.
American Legion Boys State is a "learn by doing" leadership camp held each summer for the most outstanding rising high school seniors in the state. Through the week-long program, participants learn how city, county and state governments function by actually doing the job themselves. This year's session will take place May 23-29 at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson. Eligibility for all Boys State delegates requires them to be juniors in high school, with one year remaining before graduation. The cost to attend Boys State is $250, which includes room and board. Young men wishing to attend Boys State should contact the American Legion State Office at (601) 352-4986.
* Itawamba Community College's 2009 Career Expo has been identified as a "Best Practice" by the National Association for Tech Prep Leadership and will be included in the publication "Cultivating Success: Tech Prep Best Practices Across the United States."
The publication will debut Sept. 30 at the 2009 National Career Pathways Network Conference in Atlanta.
About 1,800 high school seniors from ICC's five-county district attended Career Expo 2009, which was Feb. 5 at the Davis Event Center at the Fulton campus. The students had the opportunity to talk to ICC program directors and area businesses concerning educational requirements, potential job market and salaries in a wide variety of careers. All of the career technical programs offered at ICC and about 30 different businesses participated.
