The IAHS Indians fell 6-4 on the road last Friday night to the West Lauderdale Knights but with game two being at home, they had a chance to tie the Class 4A series.

Luke Hargett got the start for the Indians and his defense got him out of the inning when he caught a come backer on the mound and threw to second to complete a double play.

In the bottom of the second, the Indians had a chance to take the lead as Trevor Wallace led off the inning with a walk.

Then Jared McGonagill hit a single to right field to put Wallace in scoring position.

After two strikeouts Shante Rogers drew a walk to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Bubba Mendoza stepped up to the plate and hit a hard ground ball to short that was flipped to second to end the threat.

Hargett got two quick outs in the top of the third, but Dustin James single kept the inning alive for Dustin McWilliams.

McWilliams hit a double down the left field line, driving in James from first and giving the Knights a 1-0 lead.

The Indians had a chance to tie the game in the fourth inning with a runner at third with two outs. Shante Rogers hit a ground ball to the right side of the infield.

The first baseman was pulled off the bag and Rogers hustled down the line and appeared to beat the throw to the pitcher who was covering. However, Rogers was called out on the bang-bang play.

The close play kept the tieing run from scoring but the Indians had another chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh.

After the first two batters struck out, Devin Moore hit a single to left, keeping the inning alive.

Dillon Mitchell followed with a walk, putting the tieing run at second base for Trevor Wallace.

Wallace took three hard cuts at the ball but was unable to pick up a hit. Wallace struck out swinging, giving the Knights the 1-0 victory.

"It's tough," said IAHS head coach Brian Long. "These last three weeks have been special. These guys did a tremendous job in this series but we just came up one run short."

The Indians season ended in the third round of playoffs and they finish with a record of 17-15.
