JACKSON - Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour says he will call a special session for legislators to set regulations on eminent domain.

Barbour tells The Associated Press that the special session will take place during the regular session.

Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant says lawmakers will return to the Capitol at 1 p.m. May 6 to finish writing a state budget for the year beginning July 1. The House and Senate were at the Capitol from early January to early April, and have been in recess since then.

Eminent domain is the process the government uses to take private land for projects ranging from road construction to industrial development. Barbour vetoed one eminent domain bill in March, saying it was too restrictive.

Barbour needs to show some leadership. He needs to lay out what he wants in eminent domain since he did not like the first set of rules.
