n AMORY - Amory's Meals on Wheels program provides nutritious meals to area shut-ins. For the week of April 27 Melissa Durrett will coordinate the service and First United Methodist Church will be in charge of delivery. If anyone you know is in need of this service, call 256-2035 or 256-5758.

GELI offers free

dial-up stories

n How would the little ones in your family like to have their very own storyteller? Dial-A-Story is a service of The Gilmore Early Learning Initiative(GELI) so that children of all ages may dial a special number and hear a short story. Dial-A-Story, is available on a 24-hour basis and is completely free to all callers.

Amory Library storytime offered

n AMORY -- Amory Municipal Library has storytime every Thursday at 10 a.m. It is for children who are 3 years old or older. Childcare groups and other groups are welcome. have prom work nights

n AMORY - Amory High School senior parents will have prom work nights April 27 to May 2 each night at 6 p.m.at the old armory.

Carolina RCDC bunko

party planned April 30

n CAROLINA - The Carolina RCDC will sponsor a Bunko Party on April 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carolina Community Center. The entry fee will be $10 which also includes a meal. ALC Showcase

set for April 30

n BECKER - The Monroe County Advanced Learning Center will hold an amp"ALC Showcaseamp" on Thursday, April 30. A hamburger supper will be from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. and feature hamburgers, beans, chips, drinks, and dessert for $5. A rocket team demo will be from 4:40 - 5 p.m.; 2nd Annual Student Art Show - 4:30 - 7 p.m.; Chemistry Club Magic Show - 5 - 5:30 p.m.; Physics Class Demo - 5:30 - 6 p.m.; Foreign Language Classes Presentation - 6 - 6:30 p.m.; and National Science Honor Society amp& Mu Alpha Theta Induction Ceremony - 6:30 - 7 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the activity fund.

Movie at the Elkin

Concerned Citizens plan cleanup week

n WREN -- The Concerned Citizens of Monroe County will be hosting its annual clean up week for the Wren Community April 25, through May 2. Each family is asked to clean up their own property. The clean up week will end by cleaning up at the Lyda J. Davis Community Services Center on Saturday, May 2. Free refreshments, water and garbage bags will be available.

Yard Sale set in

downtown Aberdeen

n ABERDEEN - The Aberdeen Main Street citywide yard sale will be Saturday, May 2. Anyone planning to have a yard sale that day may get their house listed on a map, which will be available downtown. Deadline to get a house on the map is Wednesday, April 29. Contact the Aberdeen Main Street office or city clerk's office about this or to reserve booth space downtown. The Aberdeen Animal Shelter will be participating in this yard sale at West Bank Storage beginning at seven a.m.

Cemetery meeting/ decoration day planned

n HARMONY -- The cemetery associations of Harmony, Puckett/Scott and Posey will hold their combined annual meeting and decoration day, including election of board members, on Saturday, May 2, beginning at 10 a. am. at Harmony Church. The business meeting will be at 11 a.m. Bring a covered dish for luncheon.

Event set on May 3 to support mission trip

n ABERDEEN - An "Ole Time Auction and Hamburger Dinner" will be held at First Baptist Church in Aberdeen at the Family Life Center on Sunday, May 3, at 6 p.m. The auction is free. Alzheimer's Group to meet May 4

n AMORY -- The Amory/Monroe County Alzheimer's Support Group will meet Monday, May 4, at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall from 10-11 a.m. Behavorial issues of individuals with Alzheimer's disease will be discussed. Amory blood drive set for May 7

n AMORY -- United Blood Services will be at Amory High School on Thursday, May 7, from 8 a.m - 3 p.m. Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.

4-H Horse Club signup is May 7

n ABERDEEN - A signup will be held on for May 7 from 6-7 p.m. at the Monroe County Extension Office in Aberdeen for any youth interested in joining the Monroe Wranglers 4-H Horse Club. For more information, contact Randall Nevins, Monroe County Extension 4-H agent.

Am. Legion Post 25 to meet May 14

n AMORY -- American Legion Post 25 and Auxiliary will meet Thursday, May 14, at the County Barn Restaurant at 6 p.m. All military and veterans are invited. 2008 Boys State participants, D.J. Arney, Jacob Fullerton, Alex Sims, James Taylor, Alec Smith, and Kyle Tubb, will be recognized. The American Legion Amory Cardinals baseball leaders, Joe McGonagill and Shane Burzell, and the American Legion Department of Mississippi Area One Eagle Scout of the year Dane Christensen, will also be recognized. Also nominations for the 2009-2010 leadership of Post 25 will be opened. Participation in the Veterans' Memorial groundbreaking on May 25 will be determined.

Una Fun Fest set, booth deadline is May 15

n UNA - The 3rd Annual Una Community Fun Fest, Walking by Faith and not by Sight, will be held June 5-6. Deadline for applications for a booth is May 15. The event will include a gospel singing, talent show, dunking booth, plus games and food. For a fee of $40, booth spaces will be available for Arts amp& Crafts, Barbecuing, Latest Fashions, Floral Arrangements, Jewelry, Photography, Water Color Painting, etc. limited for food booths. Proceeds will benefit the Community Park and Una Fire Department. Life will be held June 19

n AMORY - The 2009 Monroe County Relay for Life will be held June 19. They are seeking teams, sponsors, and volunteers. A team is considered any person or group of people who raise $100 or more. Fundraisers are: railroad festival 5K Run April 18, 3rd Annual Relay for Life Dog Show May 16, and beauty pageant on June 13.
