The IAHS Indians went into last week with a chance to win division if they could pick up wins over Saltillo and Pontotoc.

The Indians took a 2-1 lead over Saltillo on Tuesday night on a RBI single by Maikhail Miller, followed by Miller stealing home when Tyler Thomas stole second and distracted the Tigers.

In the bottom of the third, the Tigers tied the game at 2-2 on a RBI single to right, but the Indians answered in the top of the fourth.

Thomas hit a single up the middle to score Trevor Wallace from second, giving the Indians a 3-2 lead.

Saltillo tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI single and then took a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

A double and a walk led to a 2 RBI triple to center and a wild pitch plated another run to put the Tigers up by three.

The Indians only managed to score one run in their last two at bats, giving the Tigers a 6-4 victory.

After getting their second division loss, the Indians traveled to Pontotoc on Thursday.

The winner of the game would be crowned division champs.

The Indians struck first as Dillon Mitchell hit a solo home run in the top of the first.

Pontotoc tied the game and took the lead in the bottom of the third.

An error by Miller allowed one run to score, followed by a double to right that scored two runs.

Leading 3-1, the Warriors added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back home runs.

The first home run was a three run home run, and the second was a solo shot. On an average field, both home runs would have been routine fly balls, but on the short Warrior field, they accounted for four runs.

The Indians trailed 7-3 and despite late home runs by Devin Moore and Miller, the Indians fell 10-7.

The Indians had a string of bad luck late in the season but had big wins over Tishomingo County, Ponototoc and the remainder of the division.

The Warriors won division, but the Indians had a huge turn around season and are preparing for playoffs against the Pearl Pirates.

Results will be in next week's edition of the Itawamba County Times.
