Mississippi Highway Patrolman Sgt. H.L. Kitchens said King and his mother, 42-year-old Mattie Bank, were hit by a Calhoun County ambulance at the intersection of Highway 15 and County Road 405 near Houston.
King was pronounced dead at the scene and Bank was airlifted to the North Mississippi Medical Center where she was listed in stable condition Tuesday, according to Kitchens.
Kitchens said the accident was a result of King pulling out in from to the ambulance. He said even though it didn’t have any emergency lights on at the time of the accident, the ambulance had the right of way and was not speeding.
The accident is still under investigation.
