GED testing dates
scheduled for April
- FULTON – The high school equivalency test will be given on the Tupelo campus of Itawamba Community College, April 8, 15, 22 and 29. GED testing will begin at 7:30 a.m.
Prior to testing, all persons not enrolled in an Itawamba Community College-sponsored ABE/GED class will be required to participate in a pre-registration/orientation session. Pre-registration sessions will be held each Tuesday and Thursday from 1-4 p.m. in room 112 or from 6-9 p.m. in room 111 of the Purvis Center at the ICC-Tupelo campus. Attendance at both of the sessions is required.

Hudspeth reappointed
to two-year college board
- JACKSON – On March 27, the Senate confirmed Gov. Haley Barbour’s re-appointment of Henry “Bubba” Hudspeth to the Mississippi State Board for Community and Junior Colleges.
Hudspeth, a Louisville native, will represent the Third Congressional District and serve a five-year term. He was appointed by Barbour in 2006 to fill the unexpired term of Denver Brackeen. Hudspeth served more than 28 years on the East Central Community College board. Currently, he serves as vice-chairman for the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges.
The board is a coordinating agency that established standards and guidelines for the operation of the state’s 15 community colleges.

‘Treasures from the Vault’
- STARKVILLE – A varied exhibition – 19th century clothing, 500 million-year-old fossils, clocks from the 1700s, and ancient woodworking tools, among others – will be featured for the next eight months at Mississippi State University.
“Treasures from the Vault: Collections of the Mississippi State University Museums and Galleries,” opened April 1 at the Cullis Wade Depot Gallery. The free exhibition will conclude Nov. 20.
Nine campus units are participating in the exhibition, including the Department of Art and Colvard Student Union galleries, Dunn-Seiler Museum of Geology, Lois Dowdle Cobb Museum of Archaeology, and Historic Costume and Textiles Collection. Others involved are the Cully A. Cobb and Priester Antique Tool Collections, Charles H. Templeton Music Museum, Cullis and Gladys Wade Clock Museum, and Mississippi Entomological Museum.

Endowment announced
for Centennial Scholarship
- HATTIESBURG – During Founders’ Day activities March 30 celebrating the University of Southern Mississippi’s 99th anniversary, President Martha Saunders announced the establishment of the Centennial Scholarship Endowment.
In conjunction with the university’s Centennial in 2010, the effort is aimed at ensuring the future lifeblood of the institution by increasing the availability of unrestricted, endowed scholarship support.
The campaign fundraising efforts will conclude on March 30, 2011. Southern Miss family, friends, alumni, current students and faculty will be encouraged to participate.
