- Looking back: The Rebels were 1-3 for the week, starting off with a 15-11 home loss to Saint Louis.

They were unable to get the timely hits in two one-run losses to No. 2 LSU, falling 6-5 Saturday and giving up the lead late in a 2-1 series-deciding loss on Sunday.

The Rebels hit four home runs in their 7-4 win Friday, two of them by freshman designated hitter Matt Snyder. Snyder, still adjusting to SEC pitching, was hitless in the final two games of the series.

Closer Scott Bittle, making his first start in two years, threw seven innings of one-hit shutout ball Sunday and appears to be taking over the Game 3 starter's role.

- Looking ahead: It's a busy week for a team without great pitching depth. The week began Monday with a make-up game against Arkansas State at Swayze Field. The Rebels home again tonight against Jackson State and on the road Wednesday at Memphis.

Ole Miss defeated Arkansas State 11-5 on March 3 and defeated Memphis 7-4 on March 18.

Both opponents are coached by former Mississippi State assistants, ASU by Tommy Raffo and Memphis by Daron Schoenrock.

Ole Miss faces Kentucky at home in SEC play this weekend.

- Rankings: After going 1-3 last week, the Rebels dropped from No. 11 to No. 15 in the Baseball America Top 25.

- In the SEC: The Rebels are in third place in the Western Division, three games back of first-place Arkansas, one game back of second-place LSU and one game ahead of fourth-place Auburn.

- MVP: Scott Bittle The senior right-hander made only the fourth start of his Ole Miss career, the first in two years and didn't give up a run in seven complete innings. How long Bittle might last was a question for the career reliever, but he came within one out of tying a career-long outing.
