ABERDEEN - Daniel Fisher, a 2008 graduate of Oak Hill Academy, recently attended the 56th Presidential Inauguration.

He, along with 27 students from Mississippi State University, was selected by the college's Stennis Montgomery Association, a non-partisan political group. To be selected, Daniel had to compete in an essay contest as well as help register voters earlier in the fall semester.

While in the nation's capital, he attended a luncheon with the Mississippi delegation in the Senate Dining Room, the "We Are One: Inaugural Celebration" and, of course, the Inauguration itself. The group was also given a private tour of the Pentagon and Capitol Building. During an alumni reception on the last night in D.C., the organization's sponsor, Dr. Marty Wiseman, announced that Daniel had the best essay out of the 50 that were submitted, winning the Second Annual Dean Coleman Writing and Research Award.

Daniel is a freshman at Mississippi State, majoring in civil engineering, with a minor in political science. He is a member of the Shackouls Honors College, the Student Association Committee of Community/Governmental Relations, American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Stennis Montgomery Association. He is currently interviewing to be an Alumni Delegate, an ambassador of the Alumni Foundation at the university. This summer he will be a Congressional Intern for Travis Childers, who represents the 1st District of Mississippi in the House of Representatives.

Upon graduation, Daniel plans to either enter law school, specializing in governmental law, or, eventually be an adviser for a politician. Daniel is the son of David and Lynn Fisher and the grandson of Dan and Sandra Fisher.
