Saltillo High School Band is proud to announce they have had many students selected for honor bands statewide. These students were selected through competitive auditions.
Members selected for Mississippi State Honor Band are Ali Taylor, Bo Boutwell, Benjamin Corrie, Jonathan Weaver, Jacque Baker, Clancy Smith, Tara Chaffin, Maggie Parker, Anna Claire Robinson, Krista Huske and Casey Lewis. Boutwell was also selected as a member of the Mississippi All-State Lions Band.
Members selected for the Ole Miss Honor Band are Joseph Nichols, Bo Boutwell, Stephen Crumpton and Jonathan Weaver. Special congratulations to Northeast Mississippi Honor Band members who are now eligible for music scholarships: Maggie Parker, Tara Chaffin, Ali Taylor, Anna Claire Robinson, Benjamin Corrie and Bo Boutwell. Band directors are Mrs. Brown and Mr. Ferguson.
Yearbooks will be on sale through March 11. The cost is $50 without a name imprint and $55 with a name imprint. The books are printed entirely in color. To place an order, students should see Mrs. Trice.
The Saltillo High School Student Council chose the Gardner-Simmons Home for Girls to be the recipient of its February Have-A-Heart project. Three boxes of grooming supplies including shampoo, bath soap, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes and mouthwash were collected.
Saltillo High senior Carrie Burch won first place in the creative writing competition at the state Beta Club convention in Tupelo. Her win advances her to competition at the national level this summer. Carrie's name was also drawn from among the 4,000 participants to win a free laptop. Other students who attended the conference were Taylor Ethridge, Abby Nichols, Laura Owen, Chelsi Smith, Leighton Wright, Adam Hall, Morgan Hickingbottom, Mandi Raines, Anna Claire Robinson, Bailey Sloan and Bailey Tennison. Mrs. Moore is the club sponsor.
Nettleton High
Congratulations to Mrs. Gray's homeroom for raising the most money for the "Pennies for Patients" fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help fight cancer. The class won the pizza party. Thanks to all the students at Nettleton High School for raising about $1,500 for this cause. The Jr. Civitans officers, Mrs. Marlin and Mrs. Keeton thank you for your effort and support.
Congratulations to the powerlifting boys who qualified for North State in their weight divisions. The boys will travel to Lexington Saturday to participate in the North State tournament.
Dylan Sullivan, Aaron Beeks, Nishmon Owens were first-place winners in their weight divisions. Corbin White and Unterio Gladney took third place.
Congratulations also go out to the Lady Tiger powerlifters for taking third at North State. McClain took first place and Charleston second in the team competition.
The Lady Tiger Power lifters who qualified in their weight divisions to participate in the state tournament April 4 in Jackson are Tara Lanham, first place; Holly Schlicht, first place; Kimmy Nicholson, first place; Gabby Coggin, second place; Ashley Pitts, second place; and Jessi Patterson, third place.
The yearbook staff and varsity cheerleaders are selling basketball T-shirts for $15 each until March 13. The T-shirts will be red with two colors. On the left chest will be a tiger spinning a basketball that has our record of 25-5 inside the basketball. On the back will be a large basketball with all the signatures and numbers of the players. At the top of the basketball will be "Champions" and at the bottom will be Division 2-3A, Lee Country Tournament and Nettleton Invitational Tournament, 2008-2009. There are still several literary magazines for sale for $5.
There are still a few extra yearbooks for sale for $50 each. The yearbooks will be ready in May.
There are also several 2007 yearbooks left. We will sell them for $25 each. This is half price. If you missed the 2007 yearbook, now is the time to take advantage especially if you were a senior that year and did not get a book. Call 963-1515 if you want a 2007 yearbook. This was the first year that our yearbooks were all-color.
Nettleton High School varsity cheerleader tryouts will be March 11. Tumbling tryouts will be March 8 at 2 p.m.
MOOREVILLE HIGH school

Mooreville High School
Teachers at Mooreville High School were treated to a special breakfast prepared by the Student Council last Friday. They would like to thank the Student Council for all their hard work and the delicious food.
The Lee County School Board met Feb. 23 in the school library. The Student Council members helped by setting up chairs and bringing food and refreshments.
The Student Council is selling Spring Break T-shirts until this Friday. If you would like to order one, please contact a Student Council member, Mrs. Williams or Mrs. Sanders. They are $15 for regular sizes.
The varsity cheerleaders will have a tryout clinic March 10-12.
The date students and teachers are anxiously awaiting is March 16-20, which is spring break.
Melanie Stanford has been awarded a $1,200 band scholarship to ICC. Congratulations, Melanie, on your musical accomplishments. We are proud of you.
There are several upcoming games for the Mooreville Troopers:
n In baseball, there is a game March 6 at Alcorn Central, March 7 at home against Mantachie and March 10 at home against Kossuth.
n In fastpitch softball, there is a game March 5 at home against Booneville, the Tupelo Tournament from March 6-7 and a game March 10 at Ripley.
n In tennis, there will be a match March 5 at Belmont, March 7 is the Tishomingo City Tournament and March 10 the match is at North Pontotoc.

Our Mooreville Middle School concert chorus received a superior rating at the District 1 Choral Festival Feb. 24 in Tupelo. Because of this honor, our singers are eligible to attend the state choral festival in Pearl March 30. Congratulations to all our chorus members and to our directors, Mrs. Humphries and Mrs. Epps. We wish you the best as you continue to advance.
We commend seventh-graders Will Pate and Robert Jones and eighth-graders Kelton Kingsley and Hannah Trent, who have earned the privilege of competing at ICC in a middle school math competition. Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Conwill are their math teachers. We are proud of all of you.
