BOONEVILLE - The Prentiss County coroner has ruled that a female inmate found hanging in the county jail committed suicide.

Coroner James Horn gave Sheriff Randy Tolar the preliminary report on the medical examiner's findings Friday afternoon, the sheriff said.

The medical examiner determined that Robbie Lewis, 25, of Booneville, died of complications of hanging, he said.

Lewis died early Wednesday at North Mississippi Medical Center after being removed from life support Monday.

She was found hanging in a Prentiss County jail cell during jailer shift change about 6 p.m. Feb. 18. Jailers performed CPR until an ambulance took her to the Booneville hospital, after which she was transferred to Tupelo.
