Pats' O'Brien agrees to become PSU coach (AP)
New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien has agreed to become Penn State's first new head football coach in nearly a half-century. Two people in the NFL with knowledge of the search told The Associated Press on Friday morning that O'Brien has told them he plans to replace fired coach Joe Paterno.

Cubs SS Castro accused of sexual assault (AP)
Chicago police are investigating an allegation that Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro sexually assaulted a woman last fall. The 21-year-old Castro has not been charged with a crime, and police otherwise declined comment. "It's an ongoing investigation," Officer John Mirabelli said Friday. Castro was unavailable for comment, but his attorneys said the allegation is false.

Oregon RB James declares for NFL draft (AP)
Oregon running back LaMichael James is skipping his senior year and declaring himself eligible for the NFL draft. James, a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2010, said Friday he has not hired an agent. "I feel like I'm leaving with a bang," said James, less than a week after he helped the Ducks to a victory over Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.

Paterno congratulates O'Brien on hiring (AP)
Joe Paterno has congratulated New England Patriots coordinator Bill O'Brien following reports that O'Brien will be Penn State's next head coach. O'Brien has agreed to take the job, though terms and details were still being worked out as of Friday night. While O'Brien has no apparent previous ties to Penn State, he did attend Brown University -- just like Paterno.
