Christmas for S.A.F.E. project
by bobbypepper
Information about Megan Rohman's "Christmas for S.A.F.E." community project supporting the local domestic abuse shelter: When: Monday at 5:00pm until December 23 at 5:00pm. Where: Dossett Big 4 Car Dealership and First United Methodist Church Tupelo Description Christmas for S.A.F.E. is a gift drive that I have put together as a service project for my title, Miss Tupelo. S.A.F.E. is a domestic violence safe house in Tupelo that serves 13 counties in the area and houses up to 5 families that are struggling with domestic abuse. The hope of the "Christmas for S.A.F.E." project is to raise donations and gifts for the current residents of the shelter. Attached is a list of needs and wants for Christmas for the current residents. I am aware that around Christmas time is a very difficult time to be able to give, but all donations and gifts are GREATLY appreciated! Please assist me in giving these families a wonderful Christmas experience in the midst of great struggles in their lives. Any gift or donation will go directly to these families, and hopefully, myself, as Miss Tupelo, in conjunction with the wonderful community I live in and represent, can give these families the Christmas blessings that we experience with our own friends and families. Dossett Big 4 Car Dealership at 628 South Gloster Street has a drop box for any gifts to support this cause. Starting Monday, December 12, First United Methodist Church Tupelo at 412 West Main Street in Downtown Tupelo, will have a drop box for any gifts to support this cause. More drop boxes are expected to be put in place soon, and I will update accordingly! Furniture Brands donates $100,000 to Red Cross in Mississippi
by bobbypepper

The Charitable Trust of Furniture Brands International presented a $100,000 donation Tuesday to the American Red Cross at the company's Lane Furniture plant in Belden. The company made the donation to aid in the tornado recovery effort in Mississippi.

Furniture Brands International's headquarters are located in St. Louis and the company also has five locations in Mississippi where Lane Furniture is manufactured. The company is also donating $30,000 for tornado relief in the St. Louis area.

Patty Tucker, left in photo, executive director of the Red Cross' Northeast Mississippi chapter based in Tupelo, accepts the check from Meredith Graham, Furniture Brands deputy general counsel, and Greg Ray, Lane Furniture president.

"Taking care of our communities where we work and where we live is very important to all of us at Furniture Brands," said Ralph Scozzafava, CEO of Furniture Brands, in a news release. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the families that have been impacted by these terrible storms and we wanted to help in any way we can with the recovery efforts."

More than 1,900 people are employed at the company's Mississippi locations and more than 200 people are employed at Furniture Brands International's headquarters in Clayton, Mo.

"But when you give to the needy, do not let your right hand know what your left hand is doing,..." Matt.6:3 ESV.

I know an employer who had an employee whose home was destroyed by a tornado. Said employer made a generous cash gift, and promised that when said employee got new accommodations, he could choose his living room furniture from our product line at no cost. No giant facsimile of a check, no press release...

Just saying...
