JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Republican Lynn Fitch defeated Democratic and Reform Party candidates to win election as Mississippi's state treasurer in voting on Tuesday.

Fitch, a Republican from Madison, defeated Democrat Connie Moran, the mayor of Ocean Springs, and Reform Party candidate Shawn O'Hara of Hattiesburg.

Fitch has been on leave as director of the state Personnel Board. Earlier this year, Treasurer Tate Reeves resigned from the post to seek election as lieutenant governor.
