TUPELO - Gigi's Cupcakes officially opens today.

Colby Dodd and Emily Ray own the Tupelo franchise, which is in the Kings Crossing shopping center anchored by Kohl's. Gigi's is next to Smoothie King.

Gigi's is a Nashville-based chain known for its variety of flavors and the large amounts of frosting on each cupcake.

Dodd said each cupcake usually has about two inches of frosting on top.

The store had a soft opening Thursday and sold 600 to 700 cupcakes, Dodd said. So far, wedding cake and chocolate salted caramel have been best-sellers in Tupelo.

The doors open today 10 a.m. with 14 to 15 flavors on the menu.

Cupcakes are $3 each. The store will have samples this weekend, along with balloons and face-painting.

The founder of Gigi's Cupcakes also will be in the store today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

I would have to be bad hungry to pay 3 bucks for a cup cake. Guess there must be some folks out there that will.

As "Hostess" just went bankrupt with its Twinkies at half the price.

They need something very special to get people high at $3 each.
