Davis has been under scrutiny since November when Mississippi Auditor Stacey Pickering told him to pay about $170,000 for allegedly improper billings, penalties and interest. The expenses included travel, stress counseling, food and liquor. The auditor's office has said one bill was for $67 at a gay sex shop in Canada.
Pickering's spokeswoman, Lisa Shoemaker, said Friday in a news release that the agency reviewed $44,000 in receipts and documentation that Davis submitted. The agency reduced the original amount he owed by $10,319.24, plus interest. The total amount of questionable expenditures and interest now stands at over $158,000.
Davis has repaid $96,000.
