Pontotoc authorities searching for suspect in drug case

Authorities continue to search for Patrick D. Holland of County Road 51 in Lee county.

A warrant on assault and drug charges has been issued for the 44-year-old Lee County man who ran off into the woods on Lee Line Road Thursday night after Pontotoc County Deputies stopped him for speeding.

Holland is describes as a black male and is still at large following a four hour manhunt late Thursday night.

Pontotoc County Deputy Randy Roberts said the incident began around 11 p.m. when two deputies stopped the suspect for a traffic violation.

As deputies began questioning the suspect, he suddenly sped away, Roberts said.

Roberts said one of the deputies, who was standing in the passenger side doorway, was knocked down when the driver turned the wheels toward him and drove away.

Roberts said the suspect stopped his vehicle a short distance later, jumped out and ran into the woods.

Authorities said marijuana and a large amount of cash were recovered where the suspect bailed from his pickup truck.

Lee County Deputies and a k-9 unit from the Tupelo Police Department assisted Pontotoc Deputies.
