Parrish, Can you help us out over here in Batesville with a little pub on legendary coach Willis Wright. I know he has friends and former players in your area who might want to attend a roast coming up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Rupert Howell Managing editor The Panolian Batesville, MS Legendary high school football coach Willis Wright will be honored with a "roast" Thursday, April 28 at 6 p.m. at the Batesville National Guard Armory to raise money for two local foundations. Wright worked his magic at several public schools and academies including Saltillo, Nettleton, Drew, Greenville, Ala., Carroll Academy, North Delta Academy, and Starkville winning state titles at most stops. He decided to retire after his stop at South Panola where he won a state championship and is considered to be the "father" of that dynasty football program that currently holds the title, "national champion." But he later decided to "unretire" and coached his nephew's team at North Delta, also in Batesville, to a state championship, a team that was winless before he took over in 1999. Wright would go back a help his friend, former South Panola head coach Ricky Woods, go undefeated and win four 5A state championship for four straight years, as defensive coordinator. His head coaching wins and losses are: Drew 6-13 Carroll Aca. 6-3 Saltillo 65-18 Starkville 51-10 Greenville, Ala. 28-8 Nettleton 19-4 South Panola 30-7 North Delta 35-6 The fundraiser will benefit Panola County Community Foundation and The South Panola Athletic Foundation. Tickets are $55 for singles and $100 for couples with a few tables still available. Contact Panola Partnership for additional information or to obtain tickets call 662-563-3126.

Ole Miss chancellor Dan Jones spoke to the Lee County Alumni Club at the BancorpSouth Conference Center in Tupelo earlier today. He didn’t shed much light on the athletics director search but did say that Archie Manning has spent a great deal of time researching candidates, talking with athletics directors from around the country over the last month to get an idea of who might be available and would be a good fit for Ole Miss. Jones said some candidates have publicly expressed interest &#82…
