Last night marked the 2010 Emmy Awards, with honors going to shows like "Mad Men" and "Modern Family" and actors like Jane Lynch (pictured) and Jim Parsons. (click here for a complete list of winners)
Did you watch?
Do you care?
I didn't tune in. In fact, I rarely watch any awards shows anymore. The only one I really try to watch is the Oscars, maybe the Grammys, if I'm feeling so inclined. If I hear something outrageous happened on an MTV awards show, I'll try to catch it in a rerun.
I'm curious, does anyone really watch or care about awards?
If a TV show, movie, album, wins a big award, does that make you want to watch it or listen to it?
As I said, I usually just watch the Oscars, and sometimes that's all that makes me want to see a movie, is the fact that it won an Oscar. A prime example is "The Hurt Locker." It doesn't seem like my kind of movie, but it won big at the Oscars this year, so maybe I should see it...right?
I can't say I do that with any other awards show. I know I like "Glee," and I don't need the show to win an Emmy to tell me I should watch it. Conversely, I've loved many shows, like "Supernatural," that are always overlooked by awards shows, so I could care less if it ever gets any major awards.
I don't really follow the Grammys for my listening cues, either. I like what I like. Grammys just don't seem to matter anymore, to me at least.
So, tell me, what's your relationship with awards shows?
