I'll have to say that I had my doubts about Elvis' ability to reach generations that weren't even alive when he died. I've thought about it a lot - cause as Elvis' popularity wanes, so does my job! How can a man that has been dead 33 years captivate the imagination of a 25 year old or a teenager or a 5 year old? Now, I never doubted Elvis' appeal, his talent or his absolute "coolness." Just the ability to project that same image years after he passed. This week, my doubts were put away permanently. I'll never doubt the power of Elvis again. This week, I spent a lot of time in Memphis at Elvis Week 2010 and a lot of time with Elvis fans visiting Tupelo for the first time and some for the 20th time. I visited with people from Japan, Brazil and Australia. I visited with people from Memphis, Washington, DC and North Carolina. I talked to senior citizens, seniors in high school and 7 year olds. I visited with school teachers, janitors and media moguls, multi-millionaires and those who had saved every penny to be able to visit Graceland. There are no boundaries where Elvis is concerned and he connects people like nothing else can. We went there with a mission - bring home the Ultimate Elvis title and we fell 1 slot short. But what we came home with was so much better!! We came home with new friends and renewed acquaintances with old friends. We heard from our guests and enticed a few new guests to visit us. We did our small part in sharing Elvis with the world!
