Varnado AP First-Team All-SEC

Mississippi State senior Jarvis Varnado was named first-team All-SEC by the Associated Press this afternoon. He was joined on the five-man squad by Kentucky's DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall, South Carolina's Devan Downey, and Georgia's Trey Thompkins.

Varnado was also named first team by the coaches last week (an eight-man squad). Also, sophomore point guard Dee Bost earned AP honorable mention. The list in full (u=unanimous selection):

The problem is he's not at UK and not responsible for leading his team to a win against UK. Nothing against the big blue. If I watch any of the tourney this year it'll be to watch them. My frustration comes from national media in general for consistently recognizing only perennial winners and teams that manage to beat the perennial winners... Though, I'm actually surprised though that he was so highly recognized given SC's record. That's usually the opposite of what I expect of awards. (See the Heisman Trophy)
