In 2008, Sanders was tried in Lee County, where a jury found him guilty.
He was sentenced to life in prison in Mrs. Sanders' death and not guilty by reason of insanity in the murder of her husband and his grandfather, W.D. Sanders.
He disappeared soon after their deaths and was missing for 20 years.
Sanders' appeal attorneys questioned the inconsistent verdicts and claimed the court was wrong to deny his motion for a new trial because of various alleged errors.
The Court of Appeals, voting 6-3, said Judge Thomas Gardner III was correct to first impose the life sentence over sending Sanders to commitment in a state institution.
The court also ruled in several other Northeast Mississippi cases Tuesday.
