State Sen. Alan Nunnelee of Tupelo knows his way around the political chicken yard.

Monday morning, he hosted a news conference about how he feels about the Obama health care plan.

He doesn't like it. I would have been more surprised if the GOPer had said otherwise.

Least shocking was his statement that he "could never support Nancy Pelosi as speaker," apparently because she "does not nor will she ever represent the views of North Mississippi."

Let's look at that paragraph a little closer and ask ourselves if the usually smart Nunnelee is trying to play a little joke:

1. Nunnelee is a Republican. Pelosi is a Democrat. I can't say for sure, but it certainly would be a weird moment for a Republican to vote for a Democrat for this highly political office in the House.

Travis Childers has taken a good bit of political heat for his Pelosi vote. Childers has a rational answer: What do you think GOPer John Boehner would have done for me if I'd voted for him, as a Democrat.

2. Nancy Pelosi is from California. You can figure she's never going to represent much that relates to North Mississippi.

Otherwise, Nunnelee event provided information about how he stands on the health care proposal - he opposes it. No surprise there.

But he also lists 9 ways he thinks U.S. health care needs to be changed, including many ideas being presented in the Obama plan.

He said he's taking these views throughout the district as he seeks to become the Republican nominee to go heads up with Childers and others on the November general election ballot.

Travis Childers has taken a good bit of political heat for his Pelosi vote. Childers has a rational answer: What do you think GOPer John Boehner would have done for me if I’d voted for him, as a Democrat.

I do not understand this comment. Travis was worried about what Boehner would have done for HIM???? Not the district, but HIM?????

Many answers could go here, but I did not like that one.

I am right about Childers getting support from five different labor unions,(from out of state) trial lawyers, hospital groups and personally $10,000.00 from Pelosi and $280,000.00 from Democrat leadership fund controlled by Pelosi and Barney Franks. All of his donors are posted on the internet. In fact 95% of Childers support was from out of state.

Yes Virrob, work is being done on hwy 45 by Mississippi tax payers dollars.

Twavis voted for a federal child healthcare bill that has to treat illegals paid for by a 90 million dollar tax/year on Mississippians.

The $1,000.00 tax credit given the companies is for the company to hire new workers, I doubt any company will hire a worker if they do not have enough business to keep paying these workers, because they cannot lay off these people after taking the tax credit. That would not pay even one months salary for a new hire.

When Barbour took office Mississippi had a $700 million deficit. until Travis was elected the state had a $400 millon surplus.

Yes, you are right Childers was in office when the economy tanked closing many factories.

His vote for big spending has killed the economy for all Mississippians.

Don't forget we had full employment and the dow was over $14,000 before the dems gained control of congress in 2006.

un-employment was under 7% when Childers voted for spendelous, then it junped to over 10%.

Childers voted for billions in pork spemding and Mississippi is getting bacon bits.

There is not much Childers can do to affect my life and living, However, I do not want to see him help Peloso & the Obama Junta destroy the future of my children and grand children.

Since all running for representative have to report their donors, we will see if any Mississippi candidate accepts any insurance company money.

Besides, insurance companies do not charge for healthcare, doctors and hospitals charge and insurance companies pay.(how can you blame insurance companies for what doctors and hospitals charge) As usual the dems have to have a whipping boy

Bichon, assuming you’re right about labor unions supporting Travis, I wonder who is supporting the republican agenda, health insurances companies maybe??

As for as the tax credit to keep a job, I as I understand it, if no job is created, no tax credit would be given.

There are construction jobs along hwy. 45 that are in progress now. If not for the stimulus money, those jobs that Mississippians are working on and paying taxes would not be possible.

I might add that our industrial park looks like a ghost town and has for the last two years. Since six years ago, candidate Bourbon blamed all Mississippi’s problems on the previous governor, I’m he would agree that the mess the state’s economy is in now has to be his fault.

VIRROB, you are right when you say Nunnelee & Barbour tried to stay within their budget and not spend more than the state is collecting.

Twavis has shown that he does not mind spending & spending & spending money the nation does not have.

We need jobs, not a few miles of the Natchez Trace 0verlayed.

Travis has already motrgaged his childrens life and is working to mortgage his grandchildrens future.

It is laughable to think giving companies $1,000.00 to give someone a job when the company does not have work for the workers they are trying to keep on their payroll.

The big unions are the only ones being helped by Childers, THEN THE UNIONS WERE AMONG TRAVIS' BIGGEST CONTRIBUTORS.

He is too deep in the trial lawyers pockets to push for tort reform to help bring down healthcare costs.

We can only be sure of two things should the race come down to Travis Childers and Alan Nunnelee. If elected Travis Childers will vote for what he believes will be best for north Mississippi and if Alan Nunnelee is elected he will follow his record of the last six years and vote the way Haley Barbour tells him to.

I am happy to find out that Nunnelee has found his way around the chicken yard.

I am equally happy that Nunnelee has not tread through Lady Patsy's chicken manure yard.
