No wonder Nunnelee skipping Lite Gov's race

Some political pros (not Dems) actually advised state Sen. Alan Nunnelee not to run for Congress. They say he'll get creamed by Travis Childers.

But it looks like Nunnelee drank the GOP Kool-Aid, as we now know. He's working hard to make it happen, and anybody who can read the tea-leaves ahead for 17 months is a bigger man than I am. (Well, you know, I not a man at all.)

From some folks close to the situation, Nunnelee really would prefer to run for lieutenant governor in 2011 after Phil Bryant goes for the Big Office. Nunnelee, a Tupelo senator, has toiled in the trenches for Bryant and Gov. Haley Barbour as he's jockeyed for position in the next tier of GOP leadership.

But, always, standing in front of those dreams is a smart, handsome, telegenic guy from Gulfport – Sen. Billy Hewes.

Now word comes that Hewes may have nearly $500K in his campaign war chest, even before his first major fundraiser. That's impressive.

Hewes is a sharp cookie, too. He's worked hard in the Senate, held national legislative group posts and lived through Katrina to fight for his constituents. He's also a successful businessman.

And he's Senate Man No. 2, pro tempore, which is more than an honorary position.

Hewes is a man to watch. He's got "winner" written all over him.

Best of weekends - I've got yard work to do! ... patsy

Nunnelee is a dangerous opponent for Childers. With Nunnelee, there is no Desoto County vs. the rest of the district issue. There is also the strong support that Nunnelee will receive from the pro-family, pro-life voting bloc in the district. Additionally, Childers is burdened by being a member of the Obama/Pelosi party and the over-government oriented focus of the Democratic legislative agenda no matter how much Childers will seek to establish that he doesn't share their views. Democrats like Childers have no real prospect of taking back a majority control of their party. Unlike Gene Taylor, he has no long-term seniority benefit on his side.

I would suggest that you do your homework on Nunnellee's before you hitch to his wagon. There is a reason the republicans are running away from him.

What republican has urged Nunnelee not to run for congress. Nunnelee is Childers worst nightmare. We are not buying this BLUE DOG act.

Childers is leaving the country to avoid facing the Miss. voters. Just read his evasive comments in the Batesville Panolian paper . In the entire interview he evaded every tough question.

I see Childers official congressional photo in papers almost daily looking for free campaign space. Miss is low man on the spendelous totum. We get very little while the bulk of the money goes to other states. Childers has no influence in Washington. Why did Mississippi lose the contract to build helicopters in a new Columbus plant.

The new military contract went to Pelosi's district.

Conservatives want a real voice in Washington and Twavis ain't getting the job done!

Nunnlee may call himself a Republican but the truth is he's another of those that puts his social agenda before fiscal and that simply is not what the GOP needs to put sensible, responsible, government back in action.

Childers will beat him and beat him pretty badly.

The republicans are looking for a new face for the party. Nunnellee represents everything that is wrong with the party and the reasont that it has fallen on such hard times. They would prefer that he simply go away and quit yelling, "pick me, pick me, pick me".
