So much to talk about today. We'll start with the big news, which is Jarvis Varnado deciding to return to Mississippi State for his senior season. We had full coverage of that on this blog last night, so no need to rehash. Besides, plenty else to get to, starting with:
• MSU baseball. Here's the regular post-weekend update. I had promised a column on the Bulldogs, but the Varnado news pushed that to Wednesday's Journal. You'll just have to wait. The Bulldogs play at Memphis at 3 p.m. today – at the lovely AutoZone Park – and then host No. 2 LSU this weekend. Remember, that series begins Thursday. Here's the latest on the Bayou Bengals.
• MSU football coach Dan Mullen is smack in the middle of the Road Dawgs Tour, and he made a stop last night in Pascagoula. As the Mobile Press-Register reports, his message to the fans was: Keep coming. Here is the Biloxi Sun Herald's take on it. Mullen will be in New Orleans today.
• A former Bulldog has signed a rookie free agent contract. The disgraced and trigger-happy Michael Brown, who was not allowed to play for Alabama A&M last fall, has joined up with the Saints.
• Softball controversy! South Florida's coach has taken great exception to being snubbed for the NCAA tournament, and he said MSU's at-large bid "is tough to swallow," because the Lady Bulldogs failed to even make the SEC Tournament field. USF finished the season 34-22, while MSU is 28-26. USF, however, fared poorly against high-RPI teams. State coach Jay Miller cited his team's RPI as a key factor in getting the bid.
