The Bulldogs are trying to build off last season, when they went 38-25 overall (14-16 SEC) and reached the Gainesville Super Regional, where they lost to Florida in three games.
State finished the 2011 season ranked 17th in the country by Baseball America, but it’s unranked in the preseason poll, quite likely because of the loss of several key position players.
“I don’t think that we’re concerned about what happened last year or what we think is going to happen three months from now,” fourth-year coach John Cohen said. “We’re really concerned about what’s going to happen right now.”
Key returnees in the field include outfielders C.T. Bradford and Brent Brownlee – Bradford is the team’s top returning hitter, with a .303 average last season.
MSU opens its season Feb. 17-19 with a three-game home series versus Washington State.
