Downtown Tupelo merchants are going back to their Thursday emphasis.

A few years ago, the merchants kicked off a campaign to stay open until 7 p.m. Thursdays. But, participation waned.

So, the downtown merchants are trying to put new life into their Thursday approach. Kim Caron of the Caron | Prince  Gallery said the merchants are kicking off "First Thursdays."

She said on the first Thursday of every month, 12 merchants will stay open until 7 p.m.

The event starts in February.

Caron said the goal is to add special events as time goes by and weather permits.
