On 09/03/2010 Friday a burglary was reported to the Prentiss County Sheriff's Office of a building in the Wheeler Community. The suspects mad off with approx. $34,000 worth of loot. The subsequent investigation by Prentiss County Investigators over the course of the entire month of Sept. lead to the arrests of four individuals. Robert "Bob" C Lewellen 49 of 575 CR 5011 Booneville, Jamie Ray Lewellen 31 of 575 CR 5011 Booneville, James 'JD' Dean Wilson 20 of 257 HWY 4 East Booneville and Karly Dawn Clark 17 of 214 CR 4141 New Site. Bob Lewellen is charged with Burglary and Conspiracy to Commit Burglary. The remaining three are charged with Burglary. All four have been released on Bond at this time. This was a lengthy Investigation that took much resource to make our case. A substantial portion of the loot was recovered. I am very thankful for everyone's efforts and hard work. TUPELO – A Lee County teenager died this morning from injuries he received in a two-vehicle accident Monday.
Lee County Coroner Carolyn Gillentine-Green said Austin Krosp, 16, died in an accident on County Road 1498 in the Auburn community. Krosp was an unrestrained passenger and the only person killed in the accident. Gillentine-Green said the accident happened at about 7 p.m. Krosp died at the Lee County Medical Center at 1 a.m. today.
A tip that two north Mississippi men were bringing in methamphetamine from Alabama led to their arrests over the Labor Day weekend, a Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics official announced today.
MBN Director Marshall Fisher said the arrest of Pontotoc residents Scottie L. Gillespie, 30, of Lake Shore Lane and Charles T. Davis, 54, of Holly Hill Drive stemmed from a traffic stop the Mississippi Highway Patrol made involving the suspects’ vehicle on Hwy. 78 in Fulton last Friday.
Both men are charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of Endocet and possession of diazepam.
A search of the suspects turned up four ounces of a highly potent form of methamphetamine known as “ice” and a half-dozen dosage units of prescription drugs.
The controlled substances have a combined estimated street value of $7,300, according to Director Fisher, who said officers also seized drug paraphernalia and approximately $1,300 in cash.
The suspects, who are both on probation under the supervision of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, were being held in the Itawamba County Jail with bonds pending.
Two individuals were arrested Friday morning Sept 3 and charged with Grand Larceny in regards to items taken from a HWY 365 address between Cairo and Burton. The pair are identified as Christopher Matthew Palmer 19 of 7901 HWY 371 North Marietta and Joseph Wolf Walters 25 of 14 Burleson Road Mantachie. The pair were arrested after they took a trailer from a vacant house on HWY 365. The owners of the property had reported earlier that someone had taken an International Truck frome the property and items from inside the house. Their bonds were set at $5,000. Palmer is free on bond, Walters had an outstanding warrant from Tupelo and is presently still in custody.
A three vehicle crash occurred around 4:15 PM (08-31-2010) yesterday evening on US Highway 82 in Oktibbeha County East of Center Grove near Polly Bell road. The fatality is Sammie Jones, a 41 year old male from Maben. Mr. Jones was operating a Ford farm tractor, traveling west on US Highway 82. The other vehicles involved were: a 1998 Green Dodge Ram, and a 2007 Yellow Mack Truck Tractor Trailer. The dodge was driven by Mr. Raymond Poe Jr., a 58 year old male from Pheba. Mr. Poe was traveling West on US Highway 82 following the farm tractor. The Mack Truck Tractor Trailer was driven by Mr. Fred Culver, a 39 year old male from Forrest City, Arkansas. The Tractor Trailer was traveling west on US Highway 82 behind the Dodge. Mr. Jones was pronounced dead on the scene by the Oktibbeha County Coroner. The Crash is still under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol.
TUPELO – Police have made two arrests in the armed robbery of a local liquor store that happened in July.
Leonta Gates and Denarvis Ruff are charged with the July 26 armed robbery of a liquor store on South Gloster Street. Their bonds were set at $500,000 a piece. The two allegedly hit the clerk in the head with a bottle before taking an undisclosed amount of money from the store. Thanks to tips from the public, Tupelo Police Chief Tony Carleton said they were able to make the arrests.
“We considered these suspects dangerous and we needed help finding then and the public really turned out to help,” said Carleton. “Our detectives never stopped working the case and those two things are what led to these arrests.”
Police are looking for Talron Coleman, a third suspect possibly involved in the robbery.
Gates is also being charged with and auto burglary that happened on Ida Street in mid June, according to Carelton.
GUNTOWN – Deputies and narcotics agents charged two people with attempt to manufacture crystal meth.
James “Jimbo” Buse, Jr., 39, and Miranda Gillenwater, 34, were arrested Wednesday at their home at 408 County Road 2432, Guntown. Thir bonds were set at $50,000 apiece.
VERONA – Bond was set at $30,000 for a man accused of robbing a man at a Verona car was Monday night.
Bryant Sterling, 17, of Verona was arrested Tuesday by Verona police and charged with armed robbery. Chief Leo Mask said Sterling allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint at about 10 p.m. Monday, taking his wallet.
No one was injured in the incident. Sterling remains in jail.
The man accused of causing a bomb scare at a South Gloster Street bank Monday has a history of mental illness, according to police.
Temetris Watkins, 49 , of 405 Dry Creek Road was arrested Monday morning after a cab driver called police saying a man put a package in his trunk that may have been an explosive device. The cab driver parked at the BancorpSouth branch on South Gloster Street and Cliff Gookin Boulevard before alerting police about the possible explosive device.
